Answer:

20N if r is doubled because r is inversely proportional to applied force

Given:-

→Force of attraction between two bodies=40N

To find:-

→New force of attraction if the separation

between the bodies is made two times

Solution:-

By the Universal Law of Gravtitaion ,we know that:-

=>F=GMm/r²

Where:-

G is Universal Gravitational constant

F is the force of attraction

M is mass of the 1st body

m is mass of the 2nd body

r is the separation between the bodies,thus r² is the square of separation.

In the 1st case:-

=>40=GMm/r². ---(1)

When separation is doubled,then F' becomes:-

=>F'=GMm/(2r)²

=>F'=GMm/4r². -----(2)

Now,by dividing eq.2 by eq.1,we get:-

=>F'/40 = (GMm/4r²)/(GMm/r²)

=>F'/40 = 1/4

=>F' = 40/4

=>F' = 10N

Thus,the force of attraction is 10N,if the separation between the bodies is doubled.
