I suppose it is the force of gravity between two objects. Newton's gravitational force.
F = G M m / d²
So force is inversely proportional to distance².
F2 / F1 = d1² / d2²
d2² / d1² = F1 / F2
= 100 / 50 = 2
d2 = √2 * d1
So the distance is increased to √2 times its previous distance to have the gravitational force reduced to half.
