The force of interaction between two charges

 q_{1} = 6 \: micro \: coulomb \: and \: \\ \\ q_{2} = 2 \: micro \: coulomb \\ \\
is 12 N.If charge q= -2 micro coulomb is added to each of the charges then the new force of interaction is

a) 0 N
b) 8 N

TOPIC :- ELECTROSTATICS

CONCEPT :- The electrostatic force between two charges having charge q and q' is

 \frac{kqq}{ {r}^{2} }

Also , charge is additive in nature.It implies that a charge if 2 C when given a charge of - 1 C will generate the charge of 1 C on the body ( 2 - 1).

SOLUTION

Given, Force between q1 and q2 = 12 N.

  • F is directly proportional to product of two charges.
  • New charge = 4 micro C and 2 - 2 = 0 micro C.

Charge on the Second body is 0. Hence, Force between them will become 0.
