Hey mate,

A) Solving for p

c - 215 = 5p
c-215/5 = p

B ) Given,

C = 300$

Just plug in the values :-

300 = 5p +215

85 = 5p

p = 17

A total of 17 people can attend!

hope this helps you out!

Answer:

A. By solving the formula for p, we get p = \frac{C}{5} - 43

B. 17 people can attend.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given, C = Total cost in dollar of hosting the birthday party.

           p = The number of people attending the party.

The relation between C and p is: C=5p+215

A. Finding p:          C=5p+215

                              5p+215 = C  [Just altering the sides]

                              5p = C - 215

[on left hand side 215 was positive so on right hand side it will be negative]

                              p = (C - 215)/ 5

                              p = \frac{C}{5} - \frac{215}{5}

                              p = \frac{C}{5} - 43...........(1)

B. Allie's parents are willing to spend $300 for a party. So, C = $300

    Putting the value of 'C' in equation (1), p = \frac{300}{5} - 43 = 60 - 43 = 17

     ∴   17 people can attend.
