Given :  formula for percentage increase I (given as a decimal) of an investment is I=S/P−P/P, where P is the purchase price and S is the sale price

To Find : rearrange for P=.....

Solution:

percentage increase I = 100 x ( Sale price - purchase price ) / Purchase Price

in Decimal

I =   ( Sale price - purchase price ) / Purchase Price

=> I = ( S - P)/P

=> I = S/P - P/P

I   = S/P  - P/P

=> I  = S/P  -  1

=> I + 1 = S/P

=> P  =  S/ ( I + 1)

P  =  S/ ( I + 1)
