For 'X' compound

Na2X = so valency of X is 2 .

So X can be placed in group 2.

For 'Y' compound

NaY = so valency of Y is 1 .

So it can be placed in group 1 .

Hope it helps!!!!!!

Answer:     # Na2X belongs to group 16

                  # NaY  belongs to group 17

Explanation : Since X and Y both are non metals therefore they must belong to group no. 14, 15 ,16 ,17 or 18 [ non metals in the right side of the table] .

THEREFORE, group no. 16 with valency = 2  [ Na2X]

And                  group no. 17 with valency = 1  [ NaY]
