Given - Parts of number

Find - Number

Solution - Let the number be x.

So, fourth part of number = x/4

And sixth part of number = x/6

Forming equation now -

$\frac{x}{4} = \frac{x}{6} + 4$

Shifting the fractions

$\frac{x}{4} - \frac{x}{6} = 4$

Taking LCM on LHS, we get 24

$\frac{6x - 4x}{24} = 4$

$2x = 4 \times 24$

$x = \frac{4 \times 24}{2}$

x = 48

Hence, the number is 48.
