The French – Indian war, also known as the Seven Years War, was fought between the French and the American colonists. It began in 1756 and soon developed into a European war.  

Native Indian tribes like Caughnawaga Mohawk, Wabanaki, Shawnee etc. supported the French, while tribes like the Catawba, Cherokee, Iroquois supported the British colonists.

Peace was declared by the Treaty of Paris in 1763, by which the French ceded power in North America.
