The French Society was divided into 3 estates.

1. First estate:-

  • It included clergy.
  • They had certain privileges.
  • The first estates consisted of the church people.
  • They didn't had to pay taxes.
  • This estate owned third estate.

2. Second estate:-

  • It includes nobility.
  • They also had privileges like clergy.
  • This assets included the royal family and nobles.
  • They also didn't had to any direct tax to king.

3. Third estate:-

  • The third estate consisted of the lawyers included merchants, farmers, businessman etc.
  • They didn't had any kind of privileges since they had to pay many types of taxes like direct tax, which is supposed to donate in king's capital.
  • They had no rights, equality and right to vote was never introduced to them.

At that time, French society was feudal in nature. The first and second estates enjoyed all political and social rights, but the third estates were deprived of all rights.
