The frictionless pulley ‘A’ shown in Figure Q5(c) is supplied by two bars AB and AC which are hinged at ‘B’ and ‘C’ to a vertical wall. The flexible cable DG hinged at ‘D’, goes over the pulley and suports a load of 20 kN at ‘G’. The angles between the various members are shown in the figure. Determine the forces in the bars AB and AC. Neglect the size and weight of the pulley.

Explanation:

solution Solution. Since palley is frictionless, same furce exists throughout in the flexible cable He the force in AD is also 20 kN as shown in Pe 2.29=t ) Frm the figure it may be shred that AC is perpendicular to AB. Selecting AB and AC as cartesian x and y ases,

F * =0

F 1 =20= 30 degrees = 20 sin 30 degrees = l

F_{1} = 0 F x =0

F 2 +20 mo.30^ +20 c sqrt ct =30^ prime prime =0 F_{2} = 40cos 30 degrees = 34.6N Ans.
