One day Atul and Sachin were sitting on the terrace of their New Apartments building and chatting as usual. Sachin was very fond of adventure stories. He read a lot of them. He was telling Atul a story he had read and said jokingly that may be some day they will also have an adventure. He said it just for fun. But somehow it came true and their adventure started almost immediately.
They were wonderstruck to see a huge gas balloon land next to them. There was no passenger in it. They were curious, both of them went near it and looked at it from all sides. It looked very colourful and attractive. They had read that people go for fun rides in gas balloons. But this beautiful balloon had landed on its own and there was no one inside it. After looking at it from all sides they carefully stepped into it to see what was inside.
They started playing inside it and did not realize that it had started to move. Before they realized what was happening, they found that were flying up in the sky. Initially they were shocked and afraid. But when balloon started flying over the buildings and they could see beautiful sights they started enjoying the flight.
Many big birds flew past them. In one area boys were flying kites which were reaching up to their balloon. Sachin and Atul caught one or two kites and kept them safely in the balloon. But all of a sudden the air in the balloon was reduced and it started lowering itself and coming down.
There was an elephant which was waiting to take people for a ride in a fair, the balloon came down and landed on it. All the people who were waiting in the queue were surprised. They rushed forward to see what was happening. It looked very funny. A gas balloon with two boys was perched on the back of an elephant. Everyone started laughing and taking pictures.
The balloon did not rest there. It started moving once again. A group dance going on nearby in the fair. The men and women were dancing in a circle. The balloon landed in the center of the circle. The lady dancers got scared and shrieked. But the audience found it very interesting as they thought that it was preplanned and the balloon landed on purpose. They felt it was an extraordinary feat. They clapped loudly. When Atul and Sachin got down from the balloon many people rushed forward to take autographs from them. They admired Atul and Sachin and considered them to be great heroes.
All this made them feel a bit embarrassed. They somehow freed themselves from the crowd and quickly ran home. After reaching home they told everyone about the fun they had.
They headed straight to the newly started amusement park and spent a couple of hours there. Then they went to the shopping mall and plunged into a shopping spree. Following this, they had lunch followed by a trip to the multiplex to watch the latest movie. Then, they went to the beach and played with the waves. Finally, they got back to Hema’s house and she managed to convince Raji to spend the night with her. They talked late into the night recalling their school days and talking about their other friends.
It was a tiring day, but they had good fun and that was all that they wanted. It was a welcome break from their monotonous routine every day.
