The gas jar [A] containing a colourless gas is kept upside down over another gas jar; [B] containing a redish- brown gas the two jars are separated by a glass plate place in between the jars.

[i] name the gases in the two jars.

[ii] what happens when the glass plate placed in between the jars is removed?

[iii] Name the phenomenon that takes places after the gas plate between the jars os removed.

[iv] Name a coloured soild and a colourless liquid which could show phenomenon.​​

Answer:

I) The gas jar A contains normal air and jar B contains bromine vapour.

ii.) When the glass plate is removed, intermixing of gas will take place and both jars acquire reddish-brown color after some time.

iii.) The phenomenon is called Diffusion.

iv.) Coloured Solid: Potassium Permanganate and Colourless liquid: Water
