Hydrogen gas is produced when zinc is reacted with sulphuric acid.

$$\mathrm{Zn}+\mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{SO}_{4}(\mathrm{aq}) \rightarrow \mathrm{ZnSO}_{4}(\mathrm{aq})+\mathrm{H}_{2}$$

The Displacement reaction

The displacement reaction is the one wherein the atom or a set of atoms is displaced by another atom in a molecule.

It is a type of displacement reaction of a non-metal by a metal.

When zinc reacts with sulphuric acid, it produces hydrogen gas and zinc sulphate.  A + B-C → A-C + B.

The above equation exists when A is more reactive than B.

To confirm that the gas evolved is hydrogen, bring a burning matchstick near the mouth of the test tube. If the gas burns with a pop sound, it will confirm the presence of hydrogen gas.

Zinc is more reactive than hydrogen and it displaces hydrogen from dilute acids. Zinc reacts with dilute sulphuric acid to form zinc sulphate and hydrogen gas is evolved. Since the products zinc sulphate and hydrogen gas are entirely different in chemical composition and chemical properties from the reactants, the reaction is a chemical change.
