The gas predominantly responsible for global warming is carbon  monoxide.


If Earth’s atmosphere had no greenhouse gases it  would be completely transparent to thermal radiation to space,  which would all be from earth’s surface.


As you add greenhouse  gases like water vapor and CO2 they trap radiation from the  surface.


CO2 is the greenhouse gas that is rising significantly  which results in global warming. CO2 is a cooling agent.
