Water gas is the combination of carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas; i.e CO + H2O.

It is formed when carbon reacts with water steam, which can be shown as C + H2O (Steam) ?

CO +H2

When the steam of water is passes lover some material containing carbon, e.g. coke, water gas is formed.
