The gauge pressure in both tyres of a bicycle is 690k Pa. If the bicycle rider have a combined mass of 90 kg, what is the area of contact of with the ground? (Assume that each tyre supports half the total weight of the bicycle.)

weight total = mass * gravity

                     =90 * 10 =900  newton

weight of each tires = weight total /  number of the bicycle wheel

                                 =900 newton / 2

                                   = 450 newton

    pressure = 690 * 10000 pa = 690 k pa

    required is area  , then pressure = force / area  

                                  when we derived  the  formula area = force / pressure        

                            now ,  force is equal to weight of each tires

               area = 450 newton / 690*10000 pa

                        = 6.52  *  0.0001 meter square

                       if you want to convert to centimeter  ,   the answer is

                           = 6.52 cm square
