The given v-t graph shows the motion of a stone thrown vertically upwards

and then coming downwards after attaining the maximum height.

(i) Which part of the graph indicates the decrease in velocity?

(ii) Find the magnitude of displacement of the stone in first 3seconds

(i) The graph corresponding to curve AB indicates decrease in velocity.

Explanation:

It is clearly visible from the graph AB that the value of velocity is linearly decreasing w.r.t time.

It is clearly visible from the graph AB that the value of velocity is linearly decreasing w.r.t time.(Linearly decreasing = decreasing at constant rate or constant deacceleration.)

It is clearly visible from the graph AB that the value of velocity is linearly decreasing w.r.t time.(Linearly decreasing = decreasing at constant rate or constant deacceleration.)Also, When you throw a ball upward into space, it is being acted upon by the gravitational force due to which the body experiences downward acceleration and thus it's velocity decrease.

(ii) You can find displacement of an object by finding the area under its V-T graph.

Displacement in first 3 seconds = Area of AOB

→ \: s = \frac{1}{2} \times 3 \times 30

→s = 45m

Therefore, the object was displaced by

(ii) 45 meter.
