In an arithmetic mean, the “average” you add all the numbers and divide by how many numbers there are. So the arithmetic mean of 2, 6, and 8 would be (2 + 6 + 8)/3 = 16/3 or 5.333333333333333…

But the geometric mean is different. Instead of adding all the numbers you multiply all the numbers, and instead of dividing by how many numbers you take the nth root of how many numbers. So the geometric mean is the 3rd root of (2 x 6 x 8) =96
