These sac are arranged in concentric manner that is one over the other near the nucleus.

Cisterns are formed by combination of small vessicles. forming stage of Golgi cistetn are called “ cis” or “forming phase” of cistern. In this phase its shape is convex that is bulging outside( see fig) It faces endoplasmic reticullum.

At the maturation stage vessicles are clipped from cistern .This phase is called maturation phase .Proteins that are modified in golgi bodies are transported in vesicles. In this phase shape of cistern is concave i.e bulging inward. (See fig ) Cistern face towards plasma membrane .
