Answer:
Explanation:
There are a lot of things that go into the making of a tourism-intensive country. Promoting what you have is the last stage of it all. Unfortunately, Indians in general and the Indian government, as a rule, tend to work using the exact opposite approach adopted by the rest of the world.
Creating an effective tourism product requires 3 things:
Strategic long term vision
Financial wherewithal
Willingness
The Indian government has none of these three. When I say government, I mean the entire government machinery. Except for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a handful of regional so-called leaders, the rest of the machinery has no interest in looking at the progress of India’s brand as a country through tourism and travel.
The result is that as a whole, despite having the world’s oldest surviving civilization, India is not even in the top 12 countries when it comes to foreign tourists. Tourism, much like other departments of the Indian government, is “not my problem” for Indian government officials.
Secondly, the government has limited resources. This is something that the Indians as a country don’t understand. They think that the government is someone sitting in the clouds with unlimited funds to keep bailing out every section of the society because they cannot stop producing an army of children that they will never raise properly.
The government with its useless politicians keeps wasting money giving dole-outs to unproductive, entitled and useless people who add nothing to the country’s economy or society, except for more population. This money needs to be redirected to essential products which can attract people:
Repaired ancient sites & artifacts
Smooth, obstruction-free paved roads which can get tourists to any part of the nation
Manicured and intact sidewalks, lush green and well kept public areas
A powerful and ruthless safety, law and order machinery
Reasonable ticket prices - no “foreign” vs “local” ticket fares
Easy to understand and updated road and work signages
Clean public areas… CLEAN
All this requires money, which is often thrown into the drains behind people who will never add value to the country or the society in any way.
Stop that. Redirect all those funds to developing a proper tourism product.
Third is the most important of all; the government needs to have the willingness to want people to love India. The “not my job” mentality that the Indians have in general, especially those working in the government, doesn’t help.
I hope this is very helpful for you.
