No these reservations are not against the right to equality. During the british era these depressed sections of the society were below the humanity level. To uplift these sections reservation came into the indian society.

In terms of social condition, in a way it is right to equality.

Indian society is caste based society.

This means that caste decides one’s social respect and sanctions.

Brahmins and Dalits are not socially equal (irrespective of merit) it is based on caste.

Reservation is an affirmative action to change this attitude of Indian society through gradual acceptance of lower caste through social coexistence and cohabitation.
