The graph given shows the position of two cars A and B, as a function of time. The cars move along the x-axis on parallel but separate tracks, so that they can pass each others position without colliding.

1.At time t3 which car is moving faster
2 At which instant do the two cars have the same velocity
3. which one of the following best describes the motion of car A as shown on the graphs?

Answer:

1. B is moving fater.

2. At time T2

3. You haven't provided the options for the question yet.

Explanation:

Y-axis represents the X coordinate of each car, ie. their position. other axes don't matter sinc the motion is in one-Dimension.

1. If be draw a tangent to the graph of A at t3 and use it to measure its slope at instant t3, we can observe that the slope of B at the same instant t3 is greater than that of A. Now, the slope of a Displacement/Position-Time graph gives you te velocity. Therefore, the velocity of B is greather than that of A at instant t3.

2. At instant t2, a tangent drawn to graph of A is parallel to tangent of B at the same instant. Therefore, their slopes are the same, an so are their velocities.
