h = 9 ; k = -1/4

Explanation:

A graph of a linear equation passes through the points A(–1, –1) and B (2, 5).

Then the linear equation can be written using the co-ordinates as:

(x + 1) / (y + 1) = (5 +1) / (2 + 1)

3x + 3 = 6y + 6

Cancelling by 2 on both sides, we get:

x + 1 = 2y + 2

x = 2y + 1 ---------------------(1)

Since the graph passes through (h, 4) and (1/2, k), the points line on the linear equation.

So for coordinates (h , 4), x = h and y = 4.

So the equation becomes ⇒ h = 2(4) + 1 = 8 + 1 = 9.

For coordinates (1/2 , k), x = 1/2 and y = k.

So the equation becomes ⇒ 1/2 = 2(k) + 1

2k = -1/2

k = -1 / 4
