At Yaxis x=0 put x=0

Y=1

So it cut y axis at 0,1

At X axis y=0

So x=2

So it cut x axis at 2,0

The graph of linear equation of x + 2y = 2 cuts the axes at (2, 0) and (0, 1).

Concept to be used:

Straight lines of the form \dfrac{x}{a}+\dfrac{y}{b}=1 intersects the x-axis at (a, 0) and the y-axis at (0, b).

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, the given equation is

x + 2y = 2

Now, we divide both sides by 2. We get

\dfrac{x+2y}{2}=\dfrac{2}{2}

\dfrac{x}{2}+\dfrac{2y}{2}=1

\dfrac{x}{2}+\dfrac{y}{1}=1

So, we can say that the given straight line intersects the x-axis at (2, 0) and the y-axis at (0, 1).

NOTE:

Refer to the attached image to see the intersections.

  • However we can also find the intersections by putting
  1. y = 0, giving the intersection (2, 0) for the x-axis and
  2. x = 0, giving the intersection (0, 1) for the y-axis.
