Answer:
The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
The grass is always greener on the other side; this proverb focuses on the comparing nature of mankind. We have this tendency of making comparison and feel the other person is in a much better state then us or the other thing is much better than what we have. Instead of accepting and appreciating the things and people we have in our life, we always find a way to look at the things or people that are not available to us.
It means that no matter how much you give to a person, he/she will always find what someone else has better. Thus, in the process of trying to achieve something better one may end up losing what they have.
Let’s take an example of a goat in a field. A goat is having green grasses on a field, after sometimes he sees other goats having grasses on the other field. It seems to him that the goats on the other felid are having more fun and have greener and lusher grasses. So he decides to visit the other field, but when he reach the other field he realize the grasses on his felid were much better and will want to go back.
Thus, want may seem good to us might not actually be good. In the process of getting something better we either turn heaven into hell, or after achieving what we want we may end up having more aspirations and desires.
Similar, is the situation of a man, who always wants a change and when he gets the change, he feel uncomfortable and wants the things as they were. Like when a man gets married, he finds his single friends life much better than his. Things might look good on the other side, but it may not be true. Ifa person divorce his wife so that he can enjoy the freedom his single friends are enjoying. For few days he may enjoy his new found freedom but after some days he will realize his mistake and will miss the stability and his loyal wife and will want to get back to the things the way they are.
The glass is either half full or half empty same thing can be viewed from different prospective.
Man is never satisfied and always wants what others have. This is main reason of jealousy. Even the most riches people of the world such as Bill Gates cannot afford all the good things in life. On have to be mature enough to feel satisfied with whatever they have.
The proverb is not asking us to stop dreaming for better, but it wants us to be happy and satisfied with our life and not compare or feel jealous of the things others have. Many may have this envious feeling subconsciously.
It asks us maintain stability in life and stick to decision because the grass will always be greener on the other side.
