The gravitational force between two object is 49 Newton . How much distance these objects be decreased so that the force between them becomes double ?

F = k.(1/d^2)

let in the first case the distance is d1

therefore 49 N = k/(d1^2)

in the next situation, force is doubled

therefore 2.49 N = k/(d2^2)

taking a ratio 2 = {d1/d2}^2 therefore d1/d2 = sqrt (2) or

d2 = d1/sqrt(2) = 1/2 of sqrt(2).d1

the distance must be reduced to say approximately to 0.7o5.d1
