Answer:

Gravity is what holds the planets in orbit around the sun and what keeps the moon in orbit around Earth. The gravitational pull of the moon pulls the seas towards it, causing the ocean tides. Gravity creates stars and planets by pulling together the material from which they are made.

Answer:

Gravitational force is a natural phenomenon. Gravitational force is a universal force of attraction that acts between all kinds of matter.

Everybody in the universe tends to attract another body towards it due to the gravitational force.

The gravitational force depends on the masses of the bodies between which the force is acting and the distance between the bodies.

So, the gravitational effect of a small body is negligible on a relatively larger body. Gravitational force also has less effect if the bodies are far relative to their masses.

Now, considering the given question, we know that all planets and their satellites and stars have a spinning motion of their own.

Similarly for our moon, it also has a spinning motion due to which it tends to move forward in a straight motion.

However, the moon lies within the gravitational field of the earth. Hence, the earth applies a gravitational pull on the moon which attracts the moon towards the earth.

However, the spinning motion of the moon provides just enough force which balances the gravitational force of the earth.

Thus, the moon does not crash into the earth, but due to its own motion, the moon revolves around the earth.

Thus the motion of the moon is the result of the gravitational force of the earth and its own spinning motion.

As the earth pulls the moon, similarly the moon pulls the earth but as it is relatively smaller, it does not affect the motion of earth.

However, on full moons the moon is aligned with the sun and the earth. Due to this, the gravitational pull of the moon on earth increases, which pulls the water of the ocean on the earth.

Due to the pull, the water jumps higher and creates high tides on the full moon.

Similarly on the new moon also, the moon is aligned which creates low tides in the oceans.

Thus, the gravitational force of the moon affects the tides of the ocean.
