A: Jotedars : Jotedars were the richest class of peasants in the period of British rule in Bengal. Jotedars used to support the share croppers to oppose Zamindars. As,Jotedars lent so much money to the small farmers. So, in the name of money the Jotedars controlled over small farmers.They also lived in villages.
2. How did Zamindars manage to retain control over their Zamindaris ?
A : Zamindars were the revenue collectors who collect the revenue from the Zamindaris. Zamindars manage to retain control over Zamindaris by some methods. As, they named the property on the name of women which cannot be taken away. They also used to resist the outsider to buy the land. The Zamindars used to take away the land if the revenue was not paid.
3. How did paharias respond to the coming of outsiders ?
A : Paharias were the people who settled in the Rajmahal hills of West Bengal. These people used to resist the outsiders like santhals to come here. But they were forced to live in the deep hills. As, the santhals used to practise podu cultivation which is not supported by anyone. Clearing of forests troubled the hunters of paharias. In this way the living of paharias changed by the coming of outsiders.

A : As, Santhals expanded their settlements rapidly. As the settlements increased the forests decreased. The Zamindars used to tax more and more even at the time where they couldn't pay. This dissatisfied the santhals. So, santhals revolted against British rule.

A : As, the money lenders could not give loans to ryots. Money lenders took a chance in the intensive period of ryots. Ryots also complained that money lenders are against the laws. Money lenders used to take more interest. Receipts also were not given to ryots.
