Let the numbers be x and y

x-y=12.........1

x+y=10........2

Adding 1 and 2

x+y+x-y=12+10

2x+y-y=22

2x=22

x=11

y=x-12=11-12=-1

Therefore, the numbers are -1 and 11

dhruvbadaya1: We have taken the numbers as X and Y. We know that difference between then is 12. Therefore, x-y=12 OR x-12=y. We also know that their sum is 10. Therefore, x+y=10
dhruvbadaya1: We have added these two. x-y=12 and x+y=10. We get x-y+x+y=12+10. Now, we add like terms together
manojkumar3189: thank you for your answer
dhruvbadaya1: x+x=2x and y+(-y) =y-y=0
dhruvbadaya1: Therefore, 2x+0=12+10
dhruvbadaya1: 2x=22, or, x=11
dhruvbadaya1: Again we know that x+y=10
dhruvbadaya1: 11+y=10
dhruvbadaya1: y=10-11
dhruvbadaya1: y=-1
