Hurricane landfall  is usually associated with storm surge. A surge is usually a forward or a backward force which pushes something with a lot of force. This usually occurs in oceans when a storm occurs at the centre of the ocean then this surge pushes it either upwards or forward . Lot of damage occurs at this point this is because it causes Hurricanes which are the systems which occurs at the eye wall of the ocean.

Hurricane is the most destructive nature of storm associated with rough winds, heavy rainfall as well as storm surge.

It can cause the water level to rise beyond a sustainable level and cause a lot of damage after winds and water hit the landscape.

This can cause a lot of flooding too.

It is not basically one factor, but depending on the climatic conditions there may be worse situations when the hurricane hits, blasting the landscapes.
