Given :

  • 134 & 167, when divided by a number leave remainder 2

To find :

Greatest number

Solution:

First of all we will subtract the remainder from given number,

134 - 2 = 132

167 - 2 = 165

Now new numbers are , 132 & 165.

Therefore, now we need to find greatest number which will divide both without leaving remainder. The required number is called HCF.

HCF by prime factorization. Firstly find prime factor of 132 & 165

132 = 2×2×3×11

165 = 3×5×11

Now from above it is clear that , 132 & 165 have (3×11) as Common Factor

Therefore HCF of 132 & 165 is 3×11 = 33

Therefore required number which will divide 135 & 167 and leaves remainder 2 is 33

ANSWER:

Option c) 33
