solution;

Let x n y be the number

X be greater than Y.

ATP:

X=12+y.......1

X+y=10.......2

Substitute 1 in 2

(12+y)+y=10

12+2y=10

2y=-2

Y=-1

X=12+(-1)

=11

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the smaller number be X and the greater number be Y.

The greater number is 12 more than the smaller number.

=> Y = X + 12 — Eq1

Also, sum of the number is 10.

=> X + Y = 10 — Eq2.

Substitute Eq1 in Eq2 we get,

=> X + [X +12] = 10

=> X + X + 12 =10

=> 2X = 10–12

= 2X = -2

=> X = -1.

Substitute the value of X in Eq1 we get,

Y = -1+12 = 11.

Therefore the numbers are -1 and 11.
