Given,

4 rational numbers such that, -\frac{4}{5} , -1, -\frac{23}{50}, -\frac{17}{25}.

To Find,

The greatest one among the 4 rational numbers.

Solution,

All of the 4 rational numbers have different terms as the denominator.

To find the greatest one more easily we need to make all the denominators be =LCM(Denominators)=LCM(5,50,25,1)=50.

So we need to multiply each number with something to change the denominator to 50, without changing the particular value.

  • -\frac{4}{5} = - \frac{4}{5} .\frac{10}{10} =-\frac{40}{50}
  • -1 =-\frac{50}{50}.
  • -\frac{23}{50}.This will remain as it is.
  • -\frac{17}{25}=-\frac{17}{25}.\frac{2}{2} = -\frac{34}{50}.

Now all denominators are the same now we can say 50>40>34.

So -1 =-\frac{50}{50} is the greatest one.

Hence, the greatest rational number among the given is (Option b)-1.
