Given : The gross wage for an agriculture sales assistant during a particular week was $697.55

His basic wage is $490 and he is paid a commission of 3.5% of the total value of the agricultural products sold.

To Find:  the commission that he was paid

and the total value of agriculture products sold

Solution:

gross wage  =  $697.55

basic wage  =  $490

gross wage = Basic wage + Commission

=>  697.55  =  490 + Commission

=> Commission   = 207.55 $

total value of agriculture products sold  - $ X

a commission of 3.5%

Commission = (3.5/100)X  = 0.035X  $

Equate Commission

0.035X  = 207.55

=> X = 5,930

Hence  the total value of agriculture products sold = 5,930 $
