In the story “The Hack Driver”, the narrator expressed this statement based on his experience with the hack driver, Oliver Lutkins.
The young lawyer was sent to the village to serve summons to Lutkins. Lutkins, who presented himself as Bill, the Hack Driver attempted to fool the lawyer.
He took him all around the village in search of Lutkins, however, he himself, was Lutkins. Thus, he was pretending to help the lawyer but he was being dishonest and charging him a lot of money for spending time looking for Lutkins.
The lawyer noted that Lutkins as dishonest as him since he too was dishonest to his law firm.
