Answer:
when alive, the Prince was nicknamed the Happy Prince because there was never a dull moment in his life. After his death, however, the statue built in his memorial witnessed tragic events taking place in his kingdom; and he realised that this gold-plated statue with precious stones embedded in it was of no use to him if his people were out there suffering. He decided to forget his materialistc, aristocratic mindset and set about helping his citizens as well as he could; which was by donating his gold leaves and precious eyes. He was truly happy then, for he realized that true mirth emerges from giving and does not lie in one's possessions.
