HCF of 40 and 60 is the divisor that we get when the remainder becomes 0 after doing long division repeatedly.

Steps to follow to find HCF

Step 1: Divide lager number by smaller number i.e. 60  by 40. We get 20 as remainder.

Step 2: Since the remainder ≠ 0, we will divide the divisor of step 1 i.e. (40) by the remainder (20).

Step 3: Repeat this process until the remainder = 0.

The corresponding divisor obtained is the required HCF

Hence  20 is the HCF of 40 and 60.
