The statement you wrote is absolutely false. Because the HCF of an even and odd number is always an odd number.

For example :- let's take even number =12 and odd number=15

HCF of 12 and 15 is 3,i.e an odd number.

Let's take even=2 and odd=3

HCF of 2 and 3 is 1,i.e an odd number..
