The head-discharge characteristics of a centrifugal pump is given by the relation, H = 40 + 52Q – 775Q2 , where H is in m, Q in m3 /s. Three identical pumps operating in series deliver water from sump to a tank through a pipeline 1000 m long and having a diameter 350 mm. The static system head is 25 m. Neglecting velocity head and taking pipe Darcy friction factor as 0.02. Calculate (a) head (b) discharge at operating point [40.4 m, 0.2216 m3 /s]
