Given :

Magnitude of applied force = 20N

Side of square = 10mm

To Find :

Pressure exerted by pin.

Solution :

■ Pressure is measured as the force exerted per unit area.

  • It is a scalar quantity having only magnitude.
  • SI unit : N/m² or Pa

Formula : \underline{\boxed{\bf{\orange{Pressure=\dfrac{Force}{Area}}}}}

Therefore first of all we need to find area of the head of pin.

We know that,

  • Area of square = (side)²

Side of square = 10mm = 0.01m

:\implies\sf\:Area=(side)^2

:\implies\sf\:Area=(0.01)^2

:\implies\bf\:Area=10^{-4}\:m^2

By substituting the values in the formula of pressure, we get

:\implies\sf\:P=\dfrac{F}{A}

:\implies\sf\:P=\dfrac{20}{10^{-4}}

:\implies\:\underline{\boxed{\bf{\purple{P=2\times 10^5\:Pa}}}}
