Answer:

heat of formation of ammonia is -94.29 Kcal

Explanation:

We are given that;

NH3+3/4O2→1/2N2+3/2H2O      ΔH=−9.06 Kcal             eq (i)

H2+1/2O2→H2O        ΔH=−68.             eq (ii)

Heat of formation is to be calculated for

1/2N2+3/2H2→2NH3

Multiply equation (ii) by 3/2

3/2H2+3/4O2→3/2H2O            ΔH=−68.9×3/2=−103.35 Kcal

reverse equation (i)

1/2N2+3/2H2O→NH3+3/4H2              ΔH=+9.06Kcal

Now add both equations the terms on other sides will cancel out so finally we will get

1/2N2+3/2H2→NH3       ΔH=−103.35+9.06 ΔH=−94.29 Kcal

Hence the heat of formation of ammonia is -94.29 Kcal
