In the heating curve the slant line deals with temperature changes and the horizontal lines deal with change of phase(or state).At point A the substance is pure solid and there is only change in temperature through out the curve A.At B the substance is a 50:50 mixture of solid and liquid and both(solid awa liquid) have same temperature on this curve.At C the substance is pure liquid and its temperature is rising through out this curve.At point D half of the liquid is converted to gas,so it is a again a 50:50 mixture of liquid and gas.(both having same temperature)And at point E the substance is in gaseous phase with its temperature increasing.The heat involved in horizontal curves are called latent heat and they are only responsible for changing state of the substance but no change in temperature
