The height of a cloud about the earth is 100m if an observer hears the sound of a thunder 0.3s after the lightening is seen ,what is the velocity of Sound on that rainy day .

Speed of the light  = 3*10^8m/s

Time taken by light of lightening to reach down,

=   \frac{distance}{speed} = \frac{100m}{3*10^8m/s} = 0.33*10^{-8}sec

Time taken by sound of thunder to reach down = (0.3+0.33*10^{-8} )sec

This is approximately = 0.3sec

Therefore, speed of the sound  =  \frac{distance}{time} = \frac{100}{0.3}

speed of the sound  = 333.33m/s  (approx.)
