The height of a cone is 30 cm.From its top side a small cone is cut by a plane parallel to its base . If volume of smaller cone is 1/27 of the given cone ,then at what height it is cut from its base.

Let the small cone is cut off at a height ‘h’ from the top
Let the radius of big cone be r1 and small cone be r2.
Volume of the big cone,
From the figure, ΔACD ~ ΔAOB [AA similarity criterion]
Thus at a height 20 cm above the base a small cone is cut.
