Let the sides be a.
By Pythagoras theorem:
a^2-(a/2)^2=6^2
=a^2-a^2/4=36
=3a^2/4=36
=a^2=12
Now area =√3*a^2/4
Area =√3*12/4
=√3*3cm^2
