Given :

  • Height of pole = 3h m
  • Length of the Shadow = h m

To Find:

  • Angle of elevation of the sun

Construction:

Draw a line joining the tip of pole and the end of Shadow.Thus,forming a right-angled triangle.

Solution:

★Refer to the figure for better understanding.★

According to the right-angled triangle formed,

Let the height of pole be AC.

And,Length of Shadow as BC.

Angle of elevation = tan a

As ,we know

tan \: a =  \dfrac{perpendicular}{base}

Then,

tan \: a =  \dfrac{AC}{BC}

tan \: a =  \dfrac{3h}{h}

tan \: a = 3

 {tan}^{ - 1} (3) = a

Therefore,the \:  angle  \: of \:  elevation  \\ \:  of \:  the  \: sun  \: is  \:  {tan}^{ - 1} (3).
