base = x height = 4+x

area of triangle = 1/2 × b× h

48 = 1/2 × x × 4+x

48× 2 =4x + x^2

96 = 4x + x^2

x^2 + 4x -96 =0

x^2 + 12x - 8x -96 = 0

x (x+12) - 8(x+12) = 0

x = 8 or x = -12

if x = 8

then base = 8

and height = 4+ x = 4+8 =12

and if x = -12

then base = -12

and height = -12+4 = -8
