The heights (in cm) of 15 boys of a team are given below:
165, 142,150, 151, 162, 138, 132, 145, 159, 158, 160, 145, 149, 146, 148

Solution-

(1) First arrange the series in ascending or descending order.

132 , 138 , 142 , 145, 145, 146, 148, 149, 150, 151, 158, 159 , 160 , 162 , 165 .

(2) Use formula to find median

 \boxed{m =  > size \: of \: ( \frac{n + 1}{2})th \: term } \\  \\ m \:  =  >  \frac{(15 + 1)}{2}  th \: term \\  \\ m =  >  \frac{(16)}{2} th \: term \\  \\ m =  > 8th \: term \\  \\  \boxed{m =  > 149}

Note ...

If in any case class intervals are given or continuous series are given ,then used following formula to calculate median .

 \boxed{m =  >ll +  \frac{ \frac{n}{2} - cf }{f}  \times h }

m = Median

n = No of items

CF = cumulative frequency

f = frequency

h =intervals or difference in class intervals

ll = Lower limits.
