Answer:

Median = 149

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

• No. Of students in class = 6

• Height of those students =145 , 152 , 148 , 150 , 153 , 146.

 To Find :

Median of the given data = ?

procedure :

The first thing we do is :

Arrange the data in ascending order.

\begin{array}{| c | c | c | c | c | c |}\cline{1-6} 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 5 & 6 \\\cline{1-6} 145 & 146 & 148 & 150 & 152 & 153 \\\cline{1-6}\end{array}

Since it is even , we will have to find the mean of n/2 and the n/2 + 1st term. Which in this case is 3rd and 4th term. The value of these terms are 148 and 150. Which basically means that , the median is going to be :

=> 148 + 150/2

=> 298/2

=> 149 CMS

Median = 149 cms

As you can see , the median counted for extremes. Since , the value is the middle and is bound to be representative of the graph.

What you need to know ?

• Finding mean is nothing but finding average

• The concept of Mean , Median and Mode is used all over the world in daily life of a human.

• Mean is the average. This concept is used in research centres to find out number of possibilities of something that could happen. Overall occuring is taken into account and then divided with total number of occuring.

For knowing the median, we must first arrange the terms in ascending order.

145,146,148,150,152,153

Now, since the no of observations are even,

we must use the formula of

(n/2 th observation + n/2 + 1 th observation)/2

(n = no of observations )

n=6

∴(6/2 th + 6/2 +1 th)/2

3rd observation + 4th observation/2

148+150/2

= 298/2

=149 cm
