The herbicide DCMU kills the weeds because it inhibits Carbon fixation in herbs.

Explanation:

  • DCMU stands for di-chlorophyll phenyl di-chloro urea. It kills weeds because it stops P 680, a system in the electron transport system.
  • It has the capacity of competitive inhibition at the enzymatic binding site of plastoquinone. As a result the PS2 cycle gets inhibited.
  • The PS2 has guanine acceptors which accept electrons and are blocked by this compound. As a result photosynthesis fails due to lack of carbon fixation. So the weed dies.
